The Fund for Indigenous Rights and the Environment (F.I.R.E.) is a private foundation dedicted to supporting Indigenous human rights and the development of empowered, healthy, and envirnomentally sustainable indigenous communities and territories.

Native organizations currently face a relative void in funding for their efforts to protect their communities, their culture, and their lands. F.I.R.E. helps to fill this void, but we firmly believe that Indigenous communities themselves hold the experience and wisdom necessary to determine the needs and priorities for lasting social and envirnomental change. With this understanding, F.I.R.E is committed to a grantmaking model that is informed by the specific social, cultural, political, and economic needs of Indigenous communities.

Based in Alaska, the Fund for Indigenous Rights and the Environment provides strategic and financial support for Indigenous human rights, self-determination, community and ecological health, cultural and environmental protection of Indigenous lands, and the preservation of related intact ecosystems and wilderness.

F.I.R.E.is dedicated to addressing the most critical issues facing Indigenous peoples, supporting the development of empowered, healthy, and sustainable communities, and advancing the cultural and environmental conservation of Indigenous lands.

Although our emphasis has been supporting Alaska Native communities, F.I.R.E. has expanded its scope to Indigenous communities on an national and international level.
