The Fund for Indigenous Rights and the Environment currently makes grants to Indigenous organizations and projects based in Alaska. The Foundation does not currently accept unsolicited proposals.

FIELDS OF INTEREST
The FIRE grantmaking strategy prioritizes the following areas:

· Protecting Native Lands and Native Communities: Supporting Native environmental justice efforts and projects that work for the retention, reclamation, protection, and conservation of Indigenous lands and related resources, wildlife, and ecosystems.

· Community Health and Community Self-Empowerment: Supporting projects that combine the advancement of immediate community and ecological health needs with community self-empowerment and long-term social change.

· Native Self Determination: Supporting projects that build the movement for self-determination, sovereignty, and Indigenous rights.

· Culture and Subsistence: Supporting projects rooted in the protection of Indigenous culture, spirituality, traditional knowledge, and ways of life.

· Sustainable Communities: Supporting projects to develop sustainability and resource independence for Indigenous communities, including food security, sustainable energy solutions, and energy independence.
